Int'l Falls resident: Cravaack's votes harm workers in the 8th Congressional District

The Duluth News Tribune published an editorial Thursday from International Falls resident Joseph Boyle regarding Chip Cravaack, the Republican U.S. representative that replaced Jim Oberstar, and his recent vote to eliminate any guarantee to Social Security or Medicare to workers 55 and younger.

"With all due respect," Boyle writes, "privatizing Medicare and Social Security puts the responsibility of caring for the elderly onto our grandchildren." He goes on to compare Cravaack's trickle-down economics ideology to Presidents Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush which "almost ruined our country.":

With all due respect, privatizing Medicare and Social Security puts the responsibility of caring for the elderly onto our grandchildren. Similarly, not taxing the wealthy an extra 1 percent or 2 percent for incomes over $250,000 puts the tax burden on the middle class and future generations rather than having the wealthy pay their fair share.
